So, this morning at work the office manager (who is in a really good mood today because it's "Frito boat day" and she brought what is supposed to me the best chili ever) asked me and Barbara what PBR means. I kinda looked at her puzzle-faced, and said that I had no idea, so she tried to clarify. Apparently there is a song (country) that says something about having toes in the water and an ass in the sand (very strange to hear the office manager say ass), so I google those words and come up with a song called "toes" by the Zac Brown Band (for the record, Zack should be spelled with a k, it just looks better that way). I read the lyrics (thinking maybe office manager got them wrong), and PBR was there in the song, and I had no clue what that was. So then I googled "what does PBR mean" and this is what it told me:

If I could marry an object

So, every now and then Woody will have me check out something on the clickyweb that he thinks I might like, and usually he's right.  Most of the time it's a random failblog photo, but every once in a while it isn't, which was the case today.

Okay, so before I get to the part where I show you what he showed me, I'm going to tell you what I thought when I saw it:

1. I havehavehave to get that tattooed somewhere on my person
2. Wow, I thought I was pretty.
3. How long did it take to decide on that photo for the final?
4. I wish I worked at MAC
5. Skin is never that flawless... I wonder if I could learn to use photoshop.
6. The music just has to be good.
7. Okay, how do I get woody to dress up like that for Halloween?
8. I still want a tattoo of that portrait
9. Why do I not own a nice pair of gloves?
10. I hope I have time to buy that tomorrow.

So, some of you probably figured out what I'm talking about, but if not here it is:

I have never wanted a cd so bad in my life.  I'm going to make it my background on my work computer, and my phone.

Coolest necklace ever

And it's gonna be worn by someone other than me.

I found this beauty on etsy, and I love it SOOOOO BAD, but I didn't buy it and now it's sold. Is it the coolest piece of owl jewelry you have ever seen?  Yes, actually, it is.

Also, as a side note, my favorite jewelry designer is having a holiday sale. Check it out.

Maybe being not high maintenence is okay

I saw this today on graph jam and it made me smile, so here you go:

Playing pretend, or, In which I feel awkward

I went to church last night to trade cars with my dad (he had the Belvedere).  I got there at about 5:30 and my dad wasn't supposed to get there until 6:15 or so for a prayer meeting, but I wasn't going to drive all the way to Calwa to trade, so I figured I'd wait at church.  A friend of mine was there with her daughter (i think she's 4 years old) and she and I talked for a bit.  So, this kid came up to me and wanted to play pretend, and I didn't want to tell her no, so we pretended.  Now, I am not really a pretend-y type of person (I mean, you can't possibly be shocked) and I was sort of at a loss for what to with her.  Luckily (or unluckily depending on how you look at it) she told me what we would pretend.  I think she was the mom for a while, but when it was time for a meal (how awkward is it to cook spaghetti using the air as the utensils, food, pot, and dishes?) I was the one doing the cooking.  I did, however, make her wash the (non-existent) dishes.  Then we would go to sleep and not wake up until the rooster said cock-a-doodle-doo.  It was the STRANGEST thing I have ever taken part in.

It also got me thinking (and I was even thinking about it this morning still), the kids I babysat for YEARS didn't do that stuff.  I mean, I'm sure they pretended, but never with me, or any other adult that I can think of, and honestly, I don't really remember them doing it amongst themselves.  Was I not paying attention? I don't think so, I think they just didn't pretend like this four-year-old does.  Is Georgia going to do that?  Is she supposed to?  What if she doesn't?  What if she does and I go crazy making fake meals?

Anyway, it was very odd.  The child seemed thrilled though, and either she didn't notice that I was not at all comfortable or she didn't care, so I guess it was all fine.  They are strange creatures though, children.  Very strange.

What I need

One of those black, knitted, robber's masks, the kind with one big eye hole, not two separate ones.

We are in the process of finding a new company to make those funeral photo videos at work.  The guy that was doing them for us has moved, and I suggested the company I used when I worked in Bakersfield, and the boss decided to try them out.  The company is somewhere out of state so I scanned in the photos on Monday and sent them over the interwebs to them and they made the video and sent the file to me yesterday.  So today I had to get the video onto a dvd, which was not nearly as easy as I remember.  The first attempt failed, my manager took it into the chapel to play on the flat screen and came back a minute later and told me that it hadn't played.  Me, thinking that he just is old and didnt know what he was doing, took the dvd and tried it myself.  Yeah, it didn't work for me either.  So then I call the company and get an new dvd-r and they walk me through it like I'm an idiot (yes, the evidence supporting that theory is astounding).  I then take the dvd into the chapel (myself so that if it doenst work again I can hopefully hide it) and find myself standing in front of the dvd player with my fingers crossed.  Who does that?  What am I, 4 years old?  But it worked, right??

Anna (my sister) is having a baby.  It's going to be a girl (of course), and she has no name.  Last night at my parent's house we were working on a name, and she has had a ton of good suggentions, but nothing has stuck yet.  I went through trying to find a good Bible name, my aunt Heather has emailed some awesome ones (Emerald and Blossom are two of my faves), and I'd like any input you have.  And let's work quickly, she will arrive any day now.

Weekend in a nutshell

Went to mom and dad's tonight for dinner and a game of dominoes.
1. I never win.  When they change the rules so that the highest points wins, I'm all over it.  Don't get me wrong, its totally fun, but I just don't win.  Also, I have to count the dots when I lose.  Totally can't add (we play with double fifteens though, so in my defense those are a bit harder than double sixes).
2. We had soup, salad, tuna, crackers, salami, and... wait for it... garlic bread (the Rutherfords don't have a meal without garlic bread, it's like water to us).
3. I dont really have anything to put in the #3 spot, but a list of just two is lame.

Tomorrow I have to work.  It's Columbus day, and Woody has the day off, but my funeral home os open, so I'll be there, and wish I was having a day off too.  What a bummer to start the day off already feeling like I'd rather be hanging out wherever gg and Woody end up.

My weekend on call was okay, not too busy. Worked Saturday a bit, and ended up having a family to meet today, but they were really nice, and wanted to know about me and why I liked working in the funeral home and gae me a hug when they left.  Very nice people.

Thanks everyone

So, this morning at 6:30 this blog got its 30,000th visit.  Thats a ton!!

I'm funny

So, I'm at work right now, waiting for noon so that I can see if the Picture Fresno posts appear properly, and I was reading through my blog, and I thought I'd re-post some of my funnier moments.  Hey, it's my blog, I can do what I want.

I was just behind a large red truck (in clovis) that had a large red calvin peeing on the word "liberals" sticker. Funny.
1. Is that type of thing really necessary? I mean, you're in clovis, and you drive a ford. I think it goes without saying.
2. Where can I get one of those for my car?

I'm a hipster. Deal. (this one is really only funny because while I'm a bit fuzzy on what a hipster is, I'm fairly certain that I am not even close to one)

ive been in OSHA training for 2.5 hours now. i could die!

    Thoughts on a Friday afternoon

It's strange how you can think you're a good person and not actually be one, and visa versa. Anna texted me this afternoon asking if I had time to run by Marie Calendar's and get a pie for a dinner they are hosting tonight, and since I was out running errands with Bek I said that we'd do it. I bought the pie (berry, $6.99) and as I was leaving I held the door for an elderly (or at least 65) man who commented to me that it was nice to see that kindness hadn't gone out of style. It got me thinking about things. What is it about that that was bothering me? Maybe it was that I know I'm not that good of a person. Maybe it was that he was defining kindness in a way that I consider common, not like a concious act of kindness. Maybe I'm crazy (I said maybe). But anyway, I just was thinking, you can do all these things to be a good person, recycle, say please and thank you, treat those serving you with respect, remember people's birthdays, notice when someone looks nice, buy a coffee for a homeless guy, whatever, and you might not actually be a good person.  You might, like me, just do that kind of stuff because you were taught to, or because you know it's socially the better thing to do.

I'm not sure where I was going with this, and I suppose it doesn't really matter, but they were just thoughts.

Music mood: mellow with a kick

I am having a Regina Spektor week. Luckily she’s gonna be on SNL this weekend, and while I know that I like her better than Lady Gaga, she might not be able to out perform LG’s performance on SNL last week. (That link probably won't work for long, I'm sure youtube will shut it down)  She really rocked my socks off. (That one, too)

On the subject of music: Is anyone going to the Jay-Z concert in November? Just curious…

I have to work tomorrow, it’s my weekend on call and Ben, (the Fay Wrays) who usually works Saturdays is out of town. Normally we would just not have anyone in the office, but we’re pretty busy right now and I can use the time to work on Pic. Fres. anyway if there’s nothing else to do. I also am going to end up coming in on Sunday, but it shouldn’t be for too long. Also, since I’m coming in on Saturday they’re letting me go at noon today so as to avoid paying me overtime, which I’m totally down for. Not sure what I’m gonna do this afternoon, but wev, I could use some down time.

    Anyhoo, that’s what’s up.

Maybe I'll go home and see if I can find one of my Doris Day cds, she really is my favorite singer of all time, and for some reason she isn't on my itunes at work...
