embalming room happenings

i had to come in to the bakersfield mortuary this morning to work on a case. she was very emaciated, and there is this technique (or trick as the old embalmers like to call them) called tissue building (couldnt find a good description of it on the clickyweb) that allows us to fill out a person that has lost a lot of weight prior to death. well, it's not something that i do to most cases, but is sometimes necessary, and today it was. the new apprentice (i find myself calling her 'pretty girl', lol, that cant possibly be okay in the workplace (but i dont call her that to her face)) had never seen tissue building and was AMAZED at the whole process, and at how the case looked afterwards. anyway, i might let her try it one of these days, we'll see...

sunday

i have been geocaching in shafter, a few here and there when i need to drive around during my lunch break to get georgia to sleep, and i came upon this one that was locked. the combination was unknown to me, and i learned that i needed numbers in three other caches that i had already found (and neglected to pay attention to what numbers were in them). so, the last week i re-visited the three caches and remembered the numbers in them, so that today, after i worked in shafter i could go to the locked box and see what was there. well, this is what i found:
it is FULL of goodies from the coolest place ever (i wont tell you where just in case you ever go find it). i took a butterfly raising habitat (complete with catterpillars) and im going to grow them when we are back from colorado. how cool is that?
also, i got my hairs done. im a red (orange) head now.

more caching (skip if you dont care, lol)

i found my first puzzle cache today!!! it was one of those puzzles where there is a picture of a neighborhood and you have to figure out who lives where, and then you get to figure out the cords of the cache. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO fun!

also, im going to be caching in fresno this weekend, so let me know if you want to go.

wash day

our washing machine is not working properly. i looked forever last night online to see how to make it drain again, but couldnt come up with anything. anyhoo, in the meantime i needed to wash some stuff so as not to have to wear pjs to work tomorrow, and went to a new laundromat near the mortuary in bakersfield. here are some photos:
isnt it nice? these are the driers.
below are the washers
and get this: they dont take quarters! they take these things! how neat, right?

    bobby jindal

so, i dont tend to be too political, especially on my blog, partly because i dont care how others feel politically speaking, and partly because i dont want to have people tell me that i am wrong, or that i should look at things from their perspective, which i dont want to do. anyhoo, i understand that most of my readers are not republicans, and am fine with that, but for those of you that would like to read about one republican in particular, bobby jindal, i have been directed (thanks, brian) at an article about him. there are also a couple others that i have read in the past. just for a little background, jindal is the governer of louisana, and it is being rumored that he could possibly run for vp on mccains ticket. also, i am not a huge supporter of mccain, in fact, jindal is the only reason i would vote for mccain, and even that scares me a bit. anyhoo, enjoy the articles.

also, cafe press has some really cool stuff. i was looking for a jindal '08 bumper sticker and not only found one, but also found some cool shirts.

    thats it really.
