flowers and dana

well, i am happy to write that my flowers have started to bloom!

i planted a bunch of bulbs this past fall and the earliest of them (crocus and snowdrops) have started to bloom. also, this neighbor of ours gave me some little ranunculus (sp?) plants and they too have some flowers on them. here are some lovely photos:

this is a purple crocus. i also planted yellow and white ones, but most of them have not bloomed yet, and might not this year. sometimes bulbs take a season or two before they have flowers on them.

these are those flower that i cannot spell. VERY pretty!

this is a nicely grommed bush that i am going to take out, but now that it has pretty pink flowers on it, i am glad i havent yet.

and finally, this is my friend dana and my cat, tappolina. they love each other.

counter tops

thinking about redoing the kitchen:

"Butcher Block:

Butcher block is most often used as a cutting board insert in a counter made of another material. Because of the potential for water damage, butcher block should not be installed next to the sink. Hard rock maple is the best wood for butcher block, as it's particularly durable and has a tight, fine grain. Red and white oak, as well as beech, are also good choices. Butcher block should be treated periodically with mineral or linseed oil."

i want the whole counter top to be butcher block if that is what we choose.

"Soapstone doesn't stain, but must be sealed periodically with mineral oil. It's soft, so it's more prone to scratches than granite, but isn't damaged by hot pots and pans."

quotes are from homedepot.com

both look worn after a while. i am leaning toward the butcher block.

i have no idea how much these cost. but theyre pretty.

blogger and html

i ran into a little problem when i first started blogging. i wanted to change some of the things to the left of the blog, but unlike other blogger templates, the one i chose used graphics as the titles on the sidebar. me, not knowing anything about html, had to do nothing about that. but i wanted so badly for my new sidebar titles to match the ones there. after i added my links, i decided to see if by chance there was a 'links' graphics i could use. i rolled my mouse over the 'recent posts' title that was already on the blog and it showed a www address. so, i modified the address to read 'links' and sure enough, it was there, a graphic in the pretty font!
well, some time has gone by since then, and i was wondering around the blogger homepage and lo and behold.....

a whole list of the titles i wanted!!!

so, now you can see, my sidebar titles all match! i guess blogger had run into that before...

a new camera

as much as i like taking pics with my phone (and i always will), i have been thinking about investing in a camera. i want one that the lenses are changable and do cool things. i havent even really started looking at cameras, as i have no idea where to even start, so i am hoping that you all out there can be useful to me in this. what do i look for in a camera?

if its called a fortune cookie

it should contain a fortune.

my friends ed, heather and becky came down on friday night. we went out to azul and the mint. good times. on sat we went for pizza and the boys went to the casino while the girls went shopping. for dinner we went to bill lees bamboo chopstick. great chinese food and all, just one little problem:

why is it that fortune cookies dont contain fortunes? woody says that it is because the word 'fortune' doesnt translate from chinese the way it does in english. i think that is bull. out of the five of us that got fortune cookies, only one was a semi-fortune. it happened to be mine, which i guess was ironic, since i had started in on how dumb it was for the cookies that are called fortune cookies to not have fortunes in them before the cookies ever got to the table, but whatever. i had meant to take the 'fortunes' with me, but in mt anger forgot them on the table.

then everyone starts telling me that adam feels the same way, which made me feel petty (adam picks little things to get tiffed about), but at the same time, it was nice to know that im not the only one who has had an issue with this. it almost ruins the chinese dining experience for me.

so, im not really sure what they should be called, but fortune cookie is definately not it.
